Can someone point to me to the *best* explanation of — or at least defense for — why cable network should have a regular cast of rotating "contributor" characters (paid or not) if their goal is to facilitate the dissemination of news?
Like, having regular characters isn't a useful compression. Or, at least, it's no more useful than a stereotype, which they just proxy for anyway. But when booking is a function of salience which is mostly selected for by vividness and controversy...stereotypes are pathological?

(Yes, I also guess I'm finally fully-onboard the "fuck cable news as much if not more than social media" train.)
