Like, having regular characters isn't a useful compression. Or, at least, it's no more useful than a stereotype, which they just proxy for anyway. But when booking is a function of salience which is mostly selected for by vividness and controversy...stereotypes are pathological?

I think they would argue that it's impossible to disseminate news without context and analysis, and that these contributors are taking the place of the lawyer/scientist/FBI agent quotes that appear midway through a print story.

But why not use the lawyer/scientist/FBI agent? Media training / comms skills are a lot more diffuse now
