2/ Let's say there is some belief system with vocal and subjectively local adherents. Captivated by some of the messaging, you convert to that belief system and profess your allegiance in a visible and social way, at least to fellow converts.

5/ I guess I'm just describing the process of radicalization or indoctrination. But I've never studied either in any depth, so I'm...out of my depth. Can anyone more familiar point me to canonical models or texts which align with what I'm trying to say (assuming I was coherent)?
