Coffee shops: Maybe you block VPN/SSH because people using them are more likely to occupy seats for a long time. Or maybe it's just default security. But I will enthusiastically pay a surcharge for access to get me out of my house/hotel. Please — take my money.

the filthy trick i use is to just open an ssh port on 443 on my VPS. you do have to bounce through it to get other places, but it's scriptable if it's annoying.

I tether by default but for those who have this issue, there's also sslh, which is a front end proxy that will detect whether incoming connection is an https or ssh client & route appropriately.https://github.com/yrutschle/sslh
