I don't get the tech community perspective on security. Anybody could pick up a knife and go stab anybody. Anybody can go kick in somebody's door when they are not home. The deterrent is getting caught not the impossibility of attacking.

I don't think that the undectable exploitation of your router is a universal property of all possible internets. It's just a property of the one we chose to build with its terrible social norms and tendency toward libertarianism.

Maybe. But for routing to work the way it does I think it's almost an intrinsic component if not very hard to separate "Paranoid IT security" is a redundant phrase.
