Neuro people: I don't know how to ask this question, but maybe you'll figure it out. Is there a word for when you're trying to remember, say, a sequence of numbers and you can't fit repeat the whole thing, but you can get most of it then...idk, recall the rest by other means?

I don't know the term, but if you reach a certain point in a string of numbers that you 'feel' you're going to lose it, you may switch from visual to audio and vice-versa, the intersect may coincide with the five-finger limit our brains have. (1-5 easy, 6 and above not so much).
