“Fame lottery” is like any other lottery: deeply exploitative of an informational asymmetry. Fame is only possible in a world where attention is synchronized. As I keep saying, synchronized attn is a *commons*. Fame is an accidental byproduct of this scarcity. Virality is a bug.

Yea that’s why I think trends is so pathological. Durable errors accumulate when we’re compelled to provide judgements in synchronized contexts quickly. Stereotypes gradually dominate information integration. Celebrity is a slightly less generalized but not really form of it.

Yes, but it is only generates massive audiences for a few - but that is all the business model requires. And as long as the model requires massive scale (behaviorally targeted programmatic ads) all we will get is scaled products.
