My advisor just said I was "being a pedant" about one of the most important definitions in my thesis when I responded to his claim that it's straightforward by asking him to show me how to use his purported answer to do anything meaningful.
PEDANTRY IS LITERALLY OUR JOB 
Ugh that’s really rough. I spend a lot of time trying to write causally, so pendantic writing is hard for me. Some of the best feedback I got from my chair was “take out all the ‘to be pedantic’ prefaces, it’s supposed to be that way implicitly.”

It wasn't even so much that he was upset over wording or anything, we're still disagreeing about "correctly pose the problem" matters.
Ah well, I've become comfortable with the words "I don't understand, can you..."
