I dunno. The alternative for mechanics is something like “my car makes a ‘foobitty foobitty whirrrr’ noise whenever I go above 60 mph... but it’s not happening today”. This has to be better than that... right?

I don’t know. Fuel injection may have been introduced 30 years ago, but VW engineers might’ve put a carburetor in so they could hook the emissions tester up to it.
