Why not new_items = copy.copy(items)?
Seems way more explicit then relying on people to not miss it's iterating.
Python more like Whython, AMIRITE?
But seriously I don't know why people code like that or all in one line list comprehensions, instead of readable code.

It’s so much simpler the operator overloading or copy constructors
