One of the things I was most wrong about in the past two years — or at least I’m starting to believe I was very wrong about — is how private communities can be even more dangerous belief crucibles than public ones, and the implications of deplatforming.

(It took a lot of people publically speculating on the future of a more private Facebook to make me more appropriately skeptical. “What is Facebook doing?” is a very good heuristic for “what is the wrong thing to do [if you’re not talking about revenue maximization]?”)
