I never appreciated playing music as a child — I think because I never got to experience it *as* play. Now I really want to know what’s it like being able to communicate with and relate to other people through an instrument.

. I think a lot about how parents can give lifelong gifts to kids in the form of excitement & competence in things like music. I'm really grateful for the things I picked up when I was younger, when maybe things are easier to pick up.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

The harder part may be the excitement - I remember thinking that a lot of the kids who were better at violin than I was didn't seem to enjoy it as much as I did

Yea. My exposure was in school only K-5. I didn't have a talent for it so I assumed I wasn't good at it and couldn't enjoy it independently — a classic child's mistake!
