Even then, it might be advisable to hide from the start and focus on growth. You don't want worry about political implications to prematurely shut down competition against the giants, as competition and dilution of their power may be the best antidote against the problem.

To a degree, yes. You need balance. But if you hide from the start and your focus is on growth, your objective function may not be materially different from the giants either.
