Every time I visit NJ it feels like life. I mean, biologically — everything is green and wet and thriving and smells alive. California always feels liked baked death.

A major component is what feels like an eerie lack of wildlife, birds, and insects - I’m in Southern California right now and it feels like there’s so much more wildlife here than there is in New England.

Also, it creeps me out not to be able to see very far + how claustrophobic the forested, teeny-tiny mountains feel when you’ve grown accustomed to Western/Gulf coast flat-lands perspectives.
