Wait... I mean, hold your horses. What's there to "get"? The historical reference? Trying to think of similar occurences for me but can only think of German ones. I think it's more likely in your native language because the learning is rather intuitive/heuristic than rule-based.

Yea. It was just a thing you said. The figurative meaning is obvious so the literal one isn’t consciously required. Which, I guess is true of@most idioms
