He's 17, so hopefully it's less damaging. Compared to the effect of alcohol on the brain and liver, I think it's a better option. We're in a rural UK area, drink/drugs are the only form of teenage entertainment, I've had to rationalise and compromise.

Yep. Thinking you’re going to get your kids to be straitedge seems like a foolish bet. Helping foster a safe and social relationship to altered states seems like the sound one.
