1/ It's incredible how much of our social lives are spent constructing layered labyrinths of bullshit rationalizations around the things that truly drive our behavior, successfully fooling ourselves indefinitely and other people some of the time.

3/ Genuine earnestness and sincerity are always so shocking to encounter because everyone knows how vulnerable and exposed acting in such a way leaves you. Now extrapolate to other, less well-intentioned motives.
