genuine question: why do some folks use the term #ResponsibleAI and does the specific use of the word "responsible" mean?

I would expect that at minimum, the algorithms, desiderata, and training data are all open-source to be reviewed for bias and inaccuracy

If the algorithm / model / training data is open source how can that work in a for-profit business? I’m certainly for the responsible use of AI but not sure how that level of transparency can work (ie, you would never have a tech edge over competition).

Too bad? I’m beginning to believe that the *purely* for-profit corporation is in fact the first AI and that AI will eventually destroy us. Capitalism has lifted billions out of poverty and created huge tech progress. But it must be tempered.

I'm not as convinced of the doomsday scenario for the foreseeable future. Right now the cutting edge stuff is predominantly based on neural nets...and they're essentially just really great search algos (ie, optimizing for gradient descent on X dataset).

This wave of tech seems more analogous to the industrial revolution than then advent of the atom bomb. It feels like we're decades away from AGI and that we'll not be using the same approaches we are today (NNs, etc.) when we get there.

One could argue that the industrial revolution was a kind of atom bomb, in it's own way. Just a lot slower with more kinds of pain.

Yea, that's where I'm at, too. I *love* the things people are doing. I have 4 GPUs in my desktop that can learn/optimize truly fantastic things. But... ...getting increasingly worried about us all doing that. https://dispatches.artifexdeus.com/skynet-is-here-27ed9c69ee6d?gi=5dc83b2d9fb7 …
