many liberals, well intentioned, on my timeline like to brag about blocking something aberrant the minute they see it. i dont quite get it. if you block it, its still out there circulating. its always going to get out, isnt it better to attach a message ridiculing/shaming it?

They have visibility; they say something awful; people rush in to condemn the thing said that was explicitly designed to outrage them; people who follow the edgelord see a new "game on" context.

Not engaging in those contexts -- where your engagement is the whole exploit -- does deny oxygen to the fucked fire. Granted, the effect is super tiny. And, I think it needs a more collaborative mechanism. (I'm building one!) It's also admittedly hard to know who is who though.
