Steam turbines are a good way of turning thermal energy to electrical energy via kinetic energy.

I dunno. While it takes 10 years to build a nuke, vs maybe half that for a coal plant, you don't need a mine, a railroad, and 2-5 daily 135-car trains setting off on a multi-day trips to feed coal to be turned into toxic waste. That's pretty complicated.
