And as for conferences, I think there is a space for connecting people with similar interest that isn’t a meetup. Like, more than a bar of strangers but less than a place with talks that I don’t enjoy sitting through. (Obviously, I think @GETDWeb was fantastic but I can’t possibly imagine how much work @whanamura had to do to pull that off. In my head it’s orthogonal to meetups and conferences and is exactly what I want, but not sure how to small-scale it.)
