Politics started making a lot more sense to me once I realized that the people who always ask, "but how are you going to pay for it?" mean "the only think I care about is my tax rate." The "it" -- no matter how good or sound an investment -- doesn't factor into the equation.https://twitter.com/HoldenthePage/status/1156916713423810560 …

“dO yOu WaNt YoUr TaXeS tO gO uP tO pAy FoR iT?” Yes. I don’t find it that hard to justify increasing taxes to ensure my fellow citizens never have to worry about money when it comes to their health, and that our kids are educated w/o the debt I’ve been saddled with.

Like, I grew up in a Republican household. But my Mom used to say how my Pop Pop never complained about taxes because "that was the price we have to pay." To me that seemed insane because "you would have more without taxes." I was about fourteen.

Public Goods are often paid for by the public so that the public owns the goods. We set the rules. Imagine public safety (5oh, fire) being privately funded to ensure that money is being made to increase profits and the scenarios of problems upon the people increase: multifarious

I'm not sure I fully appreciate the history here, but it's tough for me to think that for my PopPop's generation of Republican's, this was obvious.

No doubt. The swing towards the privatization of things has been swinging fully since the mid 1970s. The time for it to swing back was (usually 30-35 year cycle) mos. def 2009 but I think needle rusted out or Trump just broke it off.
