The modern human mind is the most powerful AI we have ever discovered. But it runs out of power too quickly, and it doesn’t scale.

It scales fantastically! Homo sapiens sapiens is social af!

The nodes all have different handware and software, the network structure is insane, and updates and downgrades are randomly happening all the time. God only knows what jobs we’re running.

Things you can say about this month’s hot, federated and unorthodox neural network architecture, too

Suppose I said my locally owned coffee shop doesn’t scale and people said there were coffee houses everywhere. Well, I think there’s a difference between multiple handcrafted systems solving the same problem and one system implemented at scale like Starbucks.

I don't disagree. If you could, for the sake of argument, create a vector of properties for every Starbucks, the distances between each one would be smaller than between that and your local coffee house.

But they're all solving a {commons, caffeine injection} problem with remarkable robust(a)ness.

Hmm I wonder if we're reaching scaling limits? (but I agree, I don't think humans individually are that much smarter than most animals. Just a few small areas. It's the computation across time and space known as humanity that's scary smart)

Maybe. Anthropology's band, tribe, chiefdom, and state scale could use some finer graduations. But mostly, no, I don't think so. We're consummate termites, engineering our environment to suit us. I just think we're between viable structures right now.
