Remember area codes and long distance charges? Something I like to consider when trying to grok how social connectivity has changed during my lifetime.

think new twitter is a big deal; dialing 3 extra numbers every time was huge controversy… even worse, right after, many cities stole area codes, leaving the countryside to have new weird area codes, like 740 in rural ohio, while columbus kept 614… or 206 to 415 in seattle area

I moved to a rural Indiana town in 2004. People there still gave phone numbers without the exchange, much less area code. "What's your number?" "3613"
