Everyone talks about how the most important thing you should learn early in grad school is how to skim properly which is wild because they're describing how to route around a massive and nonsensical medium problem.

Spoiler alert: Academia specifically and knowledge work generally requires that knowledge is as easily discoverable as possible. Skimming is a Bed of Procrustes hack to shape our practices to institutionally-imposed demands.
