This is super interesting and I bet there’s some research idea here related to reputation and information cascades. If you take away the signal that someone is “important” (in terms of # of followers or retweets) people should focus on the information content more (maybe).

I just did a lightning talk on this but sadly it wasn't recorded! My point was that you can never remove all the social cues — our brain quickly finds new ones. But, you can design for ones that induce fewer, socially-correlated processing errors.
