1/ Is there a word for something like...heterodoxaphilia? Like, not just neophilic but an ear for the Siren's call of dissent and deviation for the sheer thrill of it, albeit without often awareness of the draw? Because a lot of intellectuals have it.

2/ Like, most of the time, "heterodox" means ill-considered and ill-informed dissent motivated by some proximal set of beliefs. But, most of the time, I think people receive "heterodox" as "renegade bad ass theory!"

Yea, I think that's *mostly* it. But at least to me, that always implies this sort of antagonistic relationship. As in argumentative. But, now that I think about it, maybe I'm wrong.

I think I see what you’re getting at. Contrarianism could be a reflexive habit of taking the position of devil’s advocate, but then there’s having a systematic attraction to belief systems with implausible explanatory power, eg paranoia.

Yes that's almost exactly it. Like, conspiratorial thinking and the variant of contrarianism I have in mind are very related.
