I write significantly better after a warmup hour or so of reading. Anyone else like that?

It doesn't even need to be the same topic as what I'm working on. It's really just anything well written. Once I get to the point where I'm stopping too frequently to chew on my reactions, I shift to writing. And for whatever reason, writing is easier for me in that state.

Well, I've also been diagnosed with ADD, so I may support that idea. I will say that I actually like reading something of a different genre or topic than what I end up writing. Reading fiction often helps me write philosophy, e.g.

Reading fiction (esp. scifi) is the single most reliable cognitive booster for me.
