Weight lifting friends: I was in an incident five years ago that herniated L3/L4. Since then I've tried getting back to deadlifts & squats; but, each time, I eventually re-injure myself. I think it's time to recognize I can't do either anymore. So... ...what can I do instead?
I'm a big fan of Bulgarian split squats. I'm always apprehensive about weight belts because I hear horror stories about how they induced a subsequently worse injury in people.

Weight belts ≠ belt squats (belt squats are p rare so it's hard to find them in commercial gyms). This is a belt squat, since the weight hangs from the hips, the direct spinal load is minimized. I agree though people seldom know how to properly use belts for normal barbell squatpic.twitter.com/i9sMR6MZHn
