1/ I've talked about my extended post-defense brain fog on here for a while now. Yesterday I realized: That ain't it. I spent the morning working on a very specific task with a well-defined deadline and poof -- my brain worked like it use to and it felt effortless.

That's how I'm looking at it. The positive and implied flipside is exactly why there is always great work to be done. There's a lot less of you than you think, but that applies to everyone else too. There are lots of great things not yet built because no one took the time...yet.

Someone recently told me on a job interview to not overestimate how much free time I'll have after my defense. After that and also reading your story I feel kind of liberated, because sometimes having all these ideas is overwhelming.
