The level of modern surveillance is just fucking terrifying. That’s obviously not an original thought. It’s just a reaction to one of those brief moments of lucidity where I perceive the rolling boil.

And I think stuff like this is inextricably related. Like, twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc — they aren’t a commons, they’re spectacle with an implict entry fee.

Privacy is for keeping secrets. Secrets are kept out of shame. Most of our shame stems from obsolete, pre-enlightenment social values. A blunt instrument for keeping everyone in some kind of order in a time when we didn’t really understand anything.

I do agree with that partially. But I also think privacy is a way of forging social boundaries and scopes. Now, everything is clobbered and global.
