Yes, they definitely are. But the frequency with which it happens and the near-instantaneousness makes me think it is definitely for growing bots and actively abuse. But hard to interrogate!

Like, completely without evidence, my brain immediately thinks: "oh this is smart, do this for a few weeks, then start doing disinformation stuff with the otherwise plausible timeline activity, all the while hidden by initial locking."
