ha, sorry, have you read William Gibson's sprawl trilogy? In Voodoo, apparently, there are beings called Loa which are sort of spirits that encapsulate archetypes of behavior. Enter an altered state and invite the Loa to 'ride' you like a horse. Now it acts through you.
