The showrunners were quite good at adapting from rich primary reference material but amazingly bad at bending arcs creatively. In any case, the books are still orders of magnitude better in every way.

Fair. I stopped reading the books so I wouldn’t know. But even then, I’m not sure I’ve ever had a book that I loved that was better as a tv show or movie so I kinda feel like expectations were off. Like, books are bigger because you’re imagination gets to synthesize more details.

I'm with you. Like it wasn't as good as the first few seasons where the characters reallllllly drove the plot and it was close to source. But it was as good or better than all the recent ones
