If I'm confused by something in a deeply technical document (textbook, paper, etc), I try to find and work through a less confusing one before proceeding. I used to be embarrassed by that, as if the deficiency was mine. In retrospect, that seems really silly.

Oh, and just to frame this correctly:
The "less confusing one" is very often an informal *tutorial* someone worked on that's published on their blog (and preferably written in a @ProjectJupyter notebook).
Tutorials exist for useful reasons.
