Like, I think it may be true in the technical sense of finite return times. But from the perspective of a human life, those expected return times may be (in effect) infinite.

The world seems to be approaching various bifurcation points. And a lot of optimism is predicated upon “we have in the past, too, and things turn out fine.” But must it? Or even, has it, relative to the unrealized but otherwise accessible pasts?
