Someone once told me, "you should do one thing each day that surprises you," which seemed like good advice at the time but I've never been able to implement. It's very hard to surprise yourself.

I find that making spontaneous decisions I don't see as ordinarily going one particular way work for this: stopping in at a store I've passed before but never been in, taking a new route home that adds two blocks of walking because why not, etc

4/ In a world full of possibilities -- even locally -- I followed painfully boring and repetitive paths. But, again, these were spatial paths made obvious by a GPS app...
...just think of the abstract, intellectual ruts that I can't even perceive.
