I complain about the Bay Area a lot. There are many reasons to do so. But, I'm going to an event about self-driving cars tonight, and that's legitimately cool.

This was also my thought. From being on twitter I assumed the Bay Area was a giant twitter meetup all the time and that was the implicit appeal.

There’s a sort of paradox of availability - bc everyone *could* meet up at any time, and there’s no constraints, everyone tends to procrastinate and defer to their short term obligations. The limited-time presence of an out-of-town friend is an effective catalyst

Where I grew up, there is a buffalo wing place that is (legitimately) incredible. Every single time I visit home, I manage to get six or seven of us together to eat there. Every time I do, my friends say, "I don't know why we don't do this more," to the people who stayed local.
