Is there are word for when you avoid reading a paper or evaluating someone's product because you're afraid it exactly explores your "original" idea? cc: Germany

I hate this feeling. It reminds me about the sad & unnecessary competitiveness of academic life. In an ideal world. I should be happy that a good idea was brought to the literature, especially if I was working on it but didn't publish, & yet in such cases I often feel 'scooped'

tbh I feel disappointment for 5min, then relief because it's easier to decide what projects to focus on. but that might be because I'm starting up a lab so it's easy to redirect projects now
