I would really like to decompose how much of clique/squad formation on twitter is the result of aligned personalities/interests and how much is algorithmic/UI artifacts.

Interested, but with skepticism. A trend I see in sociology / psychology is trying to measure that for which we have no measure. How could we in principle set a base rate by which to compare here?

Yea. Comes with some downsides when attention gets too synchronous (esp along stereotyped cleavages), but the upsides are pretty fantastic.

I have trouble not following people who follow me. It feels anti-social. Although, my feed is also aggressively pruned by a bunch of my own algorithms.
