Yea. I try explaining it to friends in *NEW JERSEY — not a cheap place to live itself — and the reaction is, "come on, you're exaggerating."
I run into a bunch of people in Denver (also expensive) who moved from there, and this definitely demonstrates why.
I’ve met engineers who moved to Manhattan—always a front runner for one of the most expensive places to live in the country if not world—because SF/Bay Area got too expensive. Yeah, I’m sticking to my less exciting condo in the Bronx.
Yea. I live in SJ and can actually make the argument, "we should move to midtown because the cost of living is lower."
Yup. I love visiting SF, but I refer to the city as “that friend with benefits who always makes me feel hot, but I def got no future there”. The city’s always going to have a piece of my youthful idealism but if I ever relocate permanently or for an extended stay, SF ain’t it.
That seems like a good analogy.
Unlike LA and Chicago: I ponder leaving here for those cities frequently. I’m still on this side of 35, don’t want kids, still single. jury’s out where life will take me.
