This sentiment seems to be extremely common in the Robber Barron crowd that conveniently forgets the time-value of money (allocation) when they decide to do something like a Gate's Pledge later in life.https://twitter.com/generativist/status/1119285645665546243 …

I suppose I am being a little harsh by possibly reading between the lines. But, distain for idealism is pretty corrosive. Idealism is often impractical... ...until it isn't.

I think the idea of a single ontologically-grounded reality was rendered incompatible with human understanding across a number of domains in the 20th century. But we're seeing a lot of overcompensation. This doesn't mean 'anything at all can be true', we still need integration.

That's why I think I may be being too harsh because I'm projecting his words onto twitter reality. But, yes, our reality is more like [left] than [right].pic.twitter.com/XiOaV4hf2k

lol well I take your point but the one on the right is ripe for deterministic cellular-automatonic behavior which is personally what I suspect gives rise to everything around us.

I meant it more as, [left] space has meta-stable points; strange attractors vs [right] everything is uniformly probable. (Poor choice of graphics)

No I get it, but I just think it's a question of individuation. Which level of reality are we talking about? Because I don't have trouble believing that a uniformly deterministic model underlies and gives rise to strange attractors and meta-stable states at higher zoom levels. :)

Oh, okay. Then yes, I agree. (Steve Levy's Artificial Life is the whole reason I got into simulation ;))
