Does anyone have a good, deep dive into building message queue services? Like, theory and practice, and not "just use [my favorite package / cloud service]!"

Kafka isn’t technically a message queue but it’s the only design I’d consider to be reliable and offer good performance as well as persistence. I’d study the design if I wanted to do something better than it.

I was thinking that may be the way to go. Study the technical docs surrounding something like that.

Let me know if you ever want to chat about the details of distributed system design, I know a lot of stuff that doesn’t work, and some stuff that almost works, still learning what is good.
