Debate me all you want but there’s nothing to make me reconsider my opinion like hearing it from someone I dislike and that is the truth.

I have the same reaction, and try to fight it; why give such people undue influence on your beliefs one way or the other?

Oh it’s not giving undue influence I think. I didn’t say I change my opinion as a reaction. But it does induce a sudden change of perspective I might not entertain otherwise. So I see it as a positive influence really.

Yea. For me it sometimes helps identify where I need to (re)allocate my attention. It's one of the really useful parts of twitter: when my hot take matches that of someone I really don't respect because of their stated principles, it makes me revisit it with more deliberation.

Perhaps it goes against popular wisdom but I find myself challenging my thoughts quite often when I find myself in an echo chamber. Unconditional agreement makes me extremely skeptical. I guess the science of means doesn’t apply to all of us the same way.

Oh yea, that's true too. The sudden, "hrm, everyone I generally like seems really really confident that [other/them] is 100% wrong about everything, which isn't a terribly useful way to model reality" feeling.
