What Braun believes "a cup" of coffee is and what I believe a cup of coffee is seem to be unrelated concepts.

Maybe to Braun, a cup is a spoon.

I remember measuring out the coffee with a tablespoon, now we use a 1cup measuring cup (twice a pot).

I'm a "measure twice; add three unit tests; then, execute once" type for my software, but for coffee it's really, "toss some beans in the grinder and let's see what happens." I should probably correct that.

I can say with an unfortunate amount of authority on the subject that for the average American household, a cup of coffee at home is around 9.5oz, but that is nowhere near enough.

I'm pretty sure a "coffee cup" is a standardized unit of measure, IIRC about 6oz. For comparison, a Starbucks *tall* is a whopping 12oz. Not that big, but still counting as "two cups" So, really, the machine's capacity is, at best, six half-actual-cups o' joe.
