1/ One aspect of publish or perish that I think is under-discussed: shitty writing. Writing well is a learnable skill. Most graduate students master it. But, in practice, it demands LOTS OF TIME. And, that's hard to justify given the endless frenetic struggle.

3/ I don't have a magical prescription to make this possible. It's basically a collective action problem. But, I just wanted to put it out there because I don't think this particular aspect of publish-or-perish and it's negative impact on our workloads is discussed enough.
