I would also posit that high follower counts correlate with decreased individual engagement, as the person imposes increasingly restrictive filters to stave off fatigue and cut out noise.

I think that's true but friends/followers ratio is also an important metric for that.

I feel like some of my funnest conversations are with you. And you have a pretty high follower count; at least compared to most accounts I follow. I feel like there is a number that is 'too small' & indicates the user doesn't actually use twitter. Except maybe to advertise.

I try to avoid following people with too many followers because if I ever tried to build a network map of my Twitter connections out to the 3rd degree, the Twitter API rate limits would make it impossible...
