2/ My counter-advice is not universal. (And, it's *really* hard to take in grad school where time is scarce.) But, I just wanted to add some weight to the other side of the scale. Slow revelation is a different type of reading than visiting all the attractions on the map.

I’m an abstract, methods, results, conclusion person if I’m trying to understand a study. If I’m trying to learn about a new substantive topic then I’ll also read the intro (and sometimes only the intro)

Yes. I shouldn't discount the time-savings value of reading the intro (and lit review, often) to see if the rest is even worth my time.
