1/ I'm sure the STS folks can say this better but, Single-author papers or projects aren't interdisciplinary. They can't be.

I think that makes sense, and that it is more true in softer sciences; when boundaries overlap in physics we can know that we're switching from our usual model to theirs and why it works to do that. Social sciences have to deal with people, they don't model as well as particles

That's a great point, I need to draw some distinction between physical sciences and social ones — different issues.
