No one at Nike ever took a history class.

It was this ad which they tweeted out this morning, but which has now been taken down.pic.twitter.com/bGZ3SIBQYM

Some have speculated that it was an April Fools' Joke since the release date was set for 4.1.2019. As far as I'm concerned, that would actually make it WORSE, not better. It would be like a German company making a "final solution" campaign for lulz.

Yea. It's also kinda my problem with whole 'woke' corporate branding now. My first reaction to this campaign was was, "oh yea, I bet it's deliberate because [its time for some game theory]" which is a pretty wild way to approach a shoe company's messaging strategy.pic.twitter.com/X7A1CFglKO

And it's not as if Nike has an unproblematic relationship with African-American consumers and exists outside of the long history of white people profiting off of black people's creativity and culture. A history that stretches back to the Confederacy. http://www.creativeliberationblog.com/blog/2016/9/15/sole-searching-adidas-nike-and-blackness …

I'd also point out that Nike founder has given a sh*tton of money to the Oregon GOP.https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/nike-phil-knight-republican-donor-746122/ …

At the Oregon GOP's state convention in 2018, their keynote speaker was Roger Stone who hung out with some white nationalists in the bar after his talk.https://twitter.com/SethCotlar/status/1031905285722398722?s=20 …

Seth Cotlar @SethCotlar10. Should Buehler win and become the figurehead of the Oregon GOP, I assume we would not see pictures like this from future Dorchester Conferences--keynote speakers hanging out with Proud Boys in the hotel bar retweeted by Alex Jones. pic.twitter.com/WGhx6iNUb1Show this thread2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

So yeah...when Nike (founded by a big time donor to the Oregon GOP) creates a "Lost Cause" ad campaign for clicks and lulz...that sh*t is NOT FUNNY.

It’s too insane for me to think it was purposive, unless by purpose we mean Hank the Proud Boy marketing intern seeing what he could get past his supervisor.

Oh wow, I hadn't even thought of that possible scenario.

Oh that was my first assumption. Followed by the strategic "mea culpa." And finally ending with generalized malaise.
